How we collect, use, and protect information on thecreditpost.com.

Last updated: July 16, 2026

Overview

The Credit Post ("we," "us," "our") publishes editorial content about credit, debt, and personal finance at thecreditpost.com (the "Site"). This policy explains what information we collect through the Site, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have regarding it.

What data we collect

We collect only what's needed to run the Site and respond to you. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

  • Newsletter subscription data: your email address, and optionally your first name, when you sign up on our newsletter page or through the signup form in the site footer.
  • Contact form submissions: your name, email address, and the content of any message you send us through our contact page.
  • Unsubscribe requests: the email address you provide when unsubscribing.
  • Basic technical data: standard information collected automatically by most websites, such as browser type and general usage patterns, which helps us understand how the Site is used.
  • Cookie preferences: whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies, stored locally in your browser. See the Cookies section below.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive financial account information, Social Security numbers, or similar identifiers through this Site, and we ask that you not include that kind of information in any form submission, including the contact form.

How we use your data

  • Newsletter: to send you the newsletter issues and related updates you signed up for.
  • Contact requests: to read, respond to, and keep a record of correspondence you send us.
  • Site operation: to maintain, secure, and improve the Site.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your email address or message content to train AI models, and we do not share subscriber or contact data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Legal basis / consent for email marketing

We only send newsletter emails to people who have affirmatively opted in by checking the consent checkbox on our newsletter signup form. We do not add anyone to the newsletter list without that explicit, unchecked-by-default consent. If you're located somewhere that requires a specific legal basis for this kind of processing (for example, under GDPR), our basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time as described below.

How we collect subscribers

We collect newsletter subscribers exclusively through opt-in forms on this Site. There are two places where you can sign up, and both use the same unchecked-by-default consent checkbox:

  • Our dedicated newsletter page.
  • The newsletter signup section in the homepage footer area (jump to it here).

We do not purchase, rent, or import contact lists from third parties, and we do not add anyone to our newsletter without their direct action on one of these forms.

Unsubscribe instructions

You can stop receiving our newsletter at any time. To do so, use the link included in every newsletter email, or visit our unsubscribe page and enter your email address. We aim to process unsubscribe requests promptly.

Data retention

We keep newsletter subscriber data for as long as you remain subscribed, and for a limited period afterward to process your unsubscribe request and maintain suppression records so we don't accidentally re-add you. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond to and resolve your inquiry, after which they may be deleted or archived.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, which can include the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time (see Unsubscribe instructions above).
  • For California residents, rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information, so there is no sale to opt out of.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@thecreditpost.com. We'll respond as promptly as we reasonably can.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar local-storage technologies to run the Site. This includes remembering whether you've accepted or declined our cookie notice, saved locally in your browser via localStorage. We do not currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes in the future, we'll update this policy and our cookie banner accordingly.

You can control cookies through your browser settings at any time, though disabling essential functionality may affect how parts of the Site work.

Data security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information you share with us. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.

Children's privacy

This Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the Site evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Material changes affecting how we use previously collected data will be communicated where appropriate.
